Recently, TOP was asked by Boskalis to supervise HSE compliance during the repair activities of the Waterway. The Waterway was in dock in Cape Town (South Africa). HSE Consultant at TOP, Ruud Verburg took up this challenge.

During the preperation fase a Yard Inspection was performed, to see if the Yard could comply with the safety standard of Boskalis. A Risk Assesment was held and a HSE plan was developped to cover all activities during the repairs. A safety induction program was enrolled for Yard employees, crew and (sub) contractors for the full period of the docking.
Continuous supervision on activities, facilitating Job Hazard Analysis and general HSE support were part of the tasks and responsibilities.
Boskalis is enforcing their Safety Program worldwide: NINA, No Injuries No Accidents. The scope of this program includes not only Boskalis employees, but also contractors and in this case, yard employees. The challenge lies in the management of differences in culture and working attitude and to create Safety Awareness for all employees during these activities.
The joint effort with the Superintendents of Boskalis and the crew to ensure a Safe & positive working environment helped TOP to perform this assignment in a pleasant and constructive manner.
Boskalis gives Safety 'TOP priority' and often invites TOP
HSE Consultants to join in this effort to enroll safe dockings
and HSE consult on projects.
Similar assignments were done by TOP Management Consultants this
year in Poland, Singapore and Australia.
